Genesis.
The beginning of something new outside my comfort zone.
Hi! I am Rithika Carol, a student of Christ (Deemed to be) University pursuing my MSc in Psychology - Health and Wellbeing. Soon after grade 10, I was confident that psychology was the field I wanted to pursue. I did want to be a science student but needed help deciphering math, chemistry and physics. However, an MSc in Psychology is my second chance at science without commitment.
On a more serious note, I chose psychology primarily because many of my questions still needed to be answered. It was in moments when people were unaware of their actions, family members falling ill due to lifestyle diseases, observing instability of emotions, and so much more that raised a million questions within me. My mother can certainly say I do not rest until I find out why.
Psychology provided me with answers to every question. As cliche as it may sound, every event in and around my life started to make sense and, more importantly, have a reason.
Although initially, the subject helped me explore concepts like the ego, psychosexual analysis, defence mechanisms, mental health disorders etc. - concepts that still excite me, I started exploring other branches of psychology that captivated me like no other. I was drawn into far more intriguing concepts that were once just thoughts I had in the shower. Ideas of past life regression, reincarnations, clairvoyance, and the larger field of spiritual psychology completely altered my mind.
Ultimately, there were answers to my why’s.
Besides this, I am also a health and fitness enthusiast. I am constantly reading and researching health and nutrition topics and hope to aid the larger community through my work and training in psychology. At the heart of my chosen major is the idea that we can all live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Health and well-being in psychology allow me to explore how people can become mentally and physically healthier. I am passionate about psychology, and I believe that by sharing my personal experiences and learnings, I can help others look for answers as I did.
Having the privilege to study health and well-being in psychology has been an incredibly fulfilling experience so far. It has given me the skills, knowledge, and understanding that I need to help others improve their mental health and well-being and improve my own.
Writing has never been a strong suit, but I love a good challenge, and this blog is undoubtedly a challenge worth pursuing. With that said, much like the creation according to the bible, it took me roughly six days to write my first entry, and I fully intend to rest on the 7th.
Until we meet again for my second attempt at a blog entry, I will leave you with a quote.
